Cotton gin

         The Cotton Gin

 The cotton gin was an invention in which made cotton one of the most profitable business in the country at that time. This invention also embedded slavery into the Souths way of life from 1794 and on.


 This led to the civil war because this made the slavery rates sky rocket.

Nat Turner

 In 1831 Nat Turner led a slavery revolt in Southampton Virginia.  The revolt ended up killing 65 white men. By convincing other slaves to join and help in getting rid of slavery.


 This led to the civil war because it scared the white southerners. It also gave hope to future revolts.

Abe Lincoln

The election of Lincoln in 1860 was a horror to the south. Because that meant that they could not move slavery in to the west.


This led to the civil war because the south hated Lincoln and saw him as the enemy.

battle of antietam

On September 17, 1862 the bloodiest battle in the civil war was fought. The battle of Antietam was won by the North by a general McClellan.

The anaconda plan

The anaconda plan was created in 1861 by general Winfield Scott of the union army. They thought that if the north could squeeze the south from all angles like an anaconda they could win the war.

Sherman's march to the sea

From November 15 – December 21, 1864 general Sherman led a group of militia men from Atlanta to savanna Georgia. They destroyed just about everything in there path classifying it as total war.
