1917- Puerto Rican's become US citizens under the Jones-Shafroth act. The US began using them as troops during WW1, as wel as to defend the panama canal. Although being US citizens, the could not vote for the president

1948- Congress passed an act permitting Puerto Rican's to elect their own governor.

2017- Puerto Rico is hit by hurricane Maria. Tension rise between mayor Carmin Yulin and President Trump over disputes concerning the US and it's assistance to Puerto Rico
