she was considered the "Mexican Madonna" when she made her debut in the 80's, and she was considered "Queen of Tejano"
This is Selena when she was a teenager. She attended American School of Correspondence in 1989.
This is Selena in college where she attended California Miramar University
Here is a picture of California Miramar University's logo.
Selena became super popular with her Tejano fans. She attended the 1987 Tejano Music Awards, and she won the "Best Female Vocalist of the Year" and also "Performer of the Year"
1990- she released an album called Ven Conmigo which was her first Tejano album she ever released, and she got a golden record status (she sold over 500,000 copies!!!!)
On April 2, 1992 she took a little break from her music career to marry Chris Perez (lead guitarist of her band). Doesn't she look STUNNING?!
Her dad, Abraham Quintanilla was SUPER against their marriage! Since he was in their band, he thought it would interfere with her performances and distract her.
In 1993, she won a Grammy for being the best Mexican American artist when her album Live came out.
One year later in 1994, she went touring in New York, Puerto Rico, and Argentina several times. During this time, another song called Amor Prohibido and it also was another one of her songs that went golden!
On March 31, 1995, Selena Quintanilla was murdered by a founder of one of her fan bases.
This Yolanda Saldivar. She was a founder of Selena's fan base, and she is the one who shot and killed the most loved and worshiped Tejano musicians.
Yolanda will be eligible for parole on March 30, 2025. She is currently incarcerated at Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas, and is imprisoned for life.
"I did actually meet Selena in the Galleria Mall in Houston, but I didn’t say much to her because I wasn’t a celebrity. I just saw her and said hello and kept it moving. Definitely growing up in Texas, I heard her on the radio. I think listening to her album – even though I didn’t know exactly what she was saying – it helped me in the studio with my pronunciation,” Beyonce said. “I think she is a legend. I admire her. She was so talented. Even though she didn’t know who I was… I was still so excited that I got the opportunity!”

“I am named after her. She was a big deal to my family and growing up from the get-go, I knew who she was and who I was named after," Selena Gomez said. "I got to visit her grave. I’ve actually met her family. Some of her family, and it’s such a honor to be named after someone so amazing.”
