"The Rainbow Fish"

"The Rainbow Fish" is a marvelous and well-known story written by Marcus Pfister while winning the 1993 Christopher Award. This is a book seen in most classrooms across the United States and remains a loved tale that all ages enjoy.

Rainbow fish swims in the deep blue sea and admires his shiny, sparkling scales - an aspect that no other fish has. After realizing that he has to share his scales in order to have friends, he develops wonderful friendships that he loves even more than his scales. This tale details aspects about love, kindness, sharing and so on. Pfister's work is beloved by thousands of children and families. There is a large array of fun & engaging lessons surrounding this book but one that I particularly love involves having students write kind words to each other on colorful scales. Every student will have nice comments from their peers at the end of the lesson, which can be found on http://lessons.atozteacherstuff.com/78/the-friendship-fish-rainbow-fish-book-activity/. Love is a crucial aspect of a classroom that should be addressed whenever possible and this activity is definitely one to remember.
