He Ruled for 25 years, he spread Islam faith throughout his travels. He took his religion very seriously, but he did not force it upon is people. The King built empires, learning centers, libraries mosque. He spread his empire Mali to Nigeria, Guinea to Senegal and to Europe. He was ruled peacefully, and very prosperous. Timbuktu was home to well educated Islamic people.
His entourage had 1000 camels, carrying gold, 10's of thousands of soldiers, his servants wore fancy garbs. He shared his wealth in his travels.
When Mansa Musa visit Egypt is gave away so much gold, that the value of gold had a brief decline.
Hajj to travel to the holy lands, one of the five pillars of Islam. The other four, to have Faith, Shahada; prayer, Salat, give to chairty, Zakat, and fasting, Sawm.
He became the first West African ruler to travel the 4000 mile journey to holy lands of Mecca. Because of his pilgrimage he brought awareness that people did not have previous of West Africa. He became known from Spain to India.
Upon Mansa Musa returned from his journey of Mecca he brought back vast amount of books. He also brought back Islamic scholars and translators, and scientists to work with him and at his universities.
