2011 - Fukushima nuclear disaster occurs along with an earthquake and tsunami. The tsunami is what caused the meltdown of the reactor. The nuclear meltdown was contained and radiation did not spread. However, the earthquake and tsunami have caused more than 19,000 people to be either killed or missing. (Japan)
