Literacy Test
The Literacy test was a test you have to take in order to vote. It showed discrimination because the whites would have easier questions than the african americans. It was mostly used to deny suffrage to African Americans.
15th Amendment Ratified
Former slaves ( African Americans) have the right to vote, all adult males of any races' rights are protected and eligible to vote. Still shows discrimination.
Grandfather Clause
A clause that affects African Americans from their previous rights, privileges, or practices. For those whites who do not wish to take the Literacy test, they can use the Grandfather clause only if they have a grandfather that has already voted. If their past relatives voted, then they can vote without taking the Literacy test.
Poll tax
A requirement to the registration for voting in a number of states until 1966. The tax payment then required in some states of the United States in the late 19th century as part of the Jim Crow laws. You'd have to pay to vote.
Citizenship
You have to be the position of being a citizen of the united states in order to vote, or else you will be denied to vote.
