Thomas Jefferson, at one point, was appointed as secretary of state by George Washington, he had worked with Alexander Hamilton, who was secretary of treasure, and from 1797-1801 he served as vice president to John Adams. When he ran for presidency, his vice president was Aaron Burr, this was during the election of 1800. When he won he made up the 12th amendment to help the electing process go more smoothly. After his run of presidency he ran for another term, this time his vice president was George Clinton and was competing against Charles Pinckney. He most definitely won, George had 14 votes while Jefferson had 162, which is a big difference.
During his time as president, he did a lot. He taxed whisky, he for $15 million he bought Louisiana from France, he sent out Luis and Clark on their famous expedition, he ended foreign slave trade on January 1, 1808, and many other things.
