Symbolic Actions - How this war started was a struggle of Independence from spain. Financial Breakdown occurs - The treaty of paris which gave Cuba, Guam, and Puerto Rico, United, States 20 million dollars which cost economic unrest. Radicals take control - War against the remnants of Spanish government began with offensive from Buenos Aires. On May 25, 1810, the day it took power the Junta agreed to send a division of 500 men in an "auxiliary expedition" northwards through the interior provinces and into Upper Peru.
Council is dominated by one individual - Napoleon's decision to invade Portugal and Spain propelled colonies towards independence. Napoleon forces Kong Ferdinand VII of Spain to abdicate and place how brother Joseph on the throne. New political body claimed authority over Spain's colonies. Spanish colonial authorities were facing a new round of revolution focused on independence.
Forced Conformity/ punishment - After Spanish and French naval forces were crushed at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Spain's ability to control the colonies lessened even more. WHen Great Britain attacked Buenos Aires in 1808, Spain could not defend the city: a local militia had to suffice.

Radicals are put down/repressed ; often assassinated - The conflicts among these colonies and with Spain eventually resulted in a chain of newly independent countries stretching from Argentina and Chile in the south to Mexico in the north in the first third of the 19th century.
