American Secretary of State, John Hay, introduced the Open Door Notes to key countries including Great Britain. Major countries at the time including Britain, Germany, Russia, and Japan had all negotiated treaties of trade relations with China that had made Spheres of Influence that could lead to other countries not having a good status, hurting their own trade with China. The 1989 Hays note showed that the United States wanted Germany, Britain, and Russia to see that U.S trade rights were on a level equal to those of other bigger countries. Hay introduced a new American Policy which was called "Open Door", this meant that America was trying to expand its economic trade and influence parts of Asia, mostly China.

Who/What

How/Why
The reason that the Open Door Policy became a policy to begin with was because European countries negotiated treaties that could damage the amount of trade that China received and they didn't want that to happen. So they created the First Open Door Policy which allowed the Americans to expand their trade over to China so China could get more profit and trading.
I wonder how bad the economy was before the Open Door Policy was created. I wonder how the Americans felt about this new opportunity to trade with new countries such as China and some places in Asia.

Where
The Open Door Notes affected major countries like France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia, and China. It was proposed to the first 7, but affected China due to their trading.

When
The Open door policy was introduced/happened in late 1899 and early 1900
I wonder how long it took Hay to write the notes and come up with the idea.

Connection to 4 worlds.
Political Connection
The Chinese were not in favor of the "Open Door" policy. America had to pass the second "Open Door" which allowed America to use military force to protect the lives, property, and business inside China, if it was necessary. This marked a new era for American expansion in Asia.
Social Connection
Russia accepted America's offer on "Ope Door" and offered to open a free port. They said the port and such would remain free, "custom duties would be levied."
The British also accepted the offer America made for their "Open Door" policy. They said "will be prepared" and that all the territory leased by Britain in China would also be open to them.
Overall, the social relations between America and the other countries seem to only have made stronger. No problems were present and it seems as though everything America wanted passed.
Economic Connection
The "Open Door" is an American policy that indicated America wanted to expand its diplomatic influence and economic trade in China and other places in Asia. In the year 1899, John Hays noticed America wanted trading rights on an equal level of the other nations: Germany, Britain, and Russia.
