- When the angel Gabriel visited Muhammad, he told him there was only one God. This came as a shock to Muhammad because most of the people where he lived including him, were polytheistic. Muhammad was actually disturbed by Gabriel's visit but eventually came to believe it was his job to carry on the philosophy that there is only one God.
- Hijra to Medina was a very significant journey. Muhammad brought his followers from Mecca and traveled to Medina which without modern technology was a very long trip. The city of Medina (Yathrib) gave him may followers as they had the idea that membership in the tribe was based on belief NOT birth.
