Five Themes of Geography: Manila Philippines

The five themes of geography is a tool to help students understand the concept more easier, there is a need to organize it into themes that helps teaching Geography in the world’s schools, colleges, and universities. In 1984, a educational tool was made that divided the subject of Geography into five themes. The five themes of geography are Location, Place, Human Environment Interaction, Movements and religion.

Location

Location is a particular place or position on earth. There are two types of location one of is Absolute, which means a specific location such as coordinates on a map using longitude and latitude. Latitude measure distance North and South and Longitude measure distance North and South. The other type of location is Relative, which also means a location that can be relative for example nearby, or it can be the the same general location as another location. For example Manila Philippines relative location is directly east of Vietnam and the absolute location is 14.5995° N, 120.9842° E.

Place

Place describes the characteristic of a place on Earth. There are two types of characteristics and they are Physical and Cultural. Physical is an area that is defined by everything in it. For example deserts,Mountains, vegetation, Rivers, and Climate. Cultural has to do with people having features that give them personality and distinguish them from other places. For example language, clothing, food, art, and religion. Such as some physical features in Manila Philippines is May is the hottest month in Manila with an average temperature of 30°C (85°F) and the coldest is January at 26°C (78°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 9 in April. The wettest month is August with an average of 140mm of rain. Also one if the most known mountain in Manila Philippines is the Mount Pinatubo. Some cultural features are the languages they speak and that is Tagalog and English. Also the most common foods are Chicken adobo, and Balut.

Human Environment Interaction

Interaction means relationships built between  people in the environment and how people adapt to the environment and how they change the environment  positive or negative. The interaction in the Philippines is working in offices or farming so they can sell the products such as  bananas, cassava, chickens, coconuts, corn, hogs, pineapples, rice and sugar cane. A lifestyle as a Filipino depends on where you live, someone who lives in a small village would help their family in a lot of choice such as getting water from a river and bring it back in buckets, but others would help their family by selling small items.

Movement Visual

Movement visual means how information travels throughout the society such as ideas, products, and other information.  For the Philippines most of the information travels through the news paper and sometimes on the internet but that depends which part of the Philippines you are located at.

Religion Visual

Religion is a area that is defined by the same characteristics these characteristics can be physical, natural, human, or even cultural. Some examples are in the Philippines they eat certain food like Lumpia and Philippine adobo. Another example is most Filipino people are Roman Catholic.
