
Beware of Balanced Spectrum Lights!
Yes, these lights are not only functional but some of the models are even stylish & good-looking. I suppose they do offer the "outdoor" light spectrum that they advertise but I never bothered to really investigate that.
What the buyer should be aware of is that these lights cannot be repaired. If you are lucky to have a light fail during its warranty period, the company most usually will replace it for free. After that, you can change the lightbulb but that is it. Should the ballast fail, you will be out of luck as I was. The company flatly refused to do anything where the light was just two years old. Now I have $130 lamp that is totally useless.
It is really too bad companies do not stand behind their products these days.

Yes, you are correct. My lamp also burned up literally after 2 years. Being an Electronic Engineer, I took it apart and found the entire ballast burnt to pieces. It even melted the outer plastic. Aware of UL1010 safety specs, how did this ever pass UL in the US and Canada? Hmm! I tried to find the ballast manufactured by Chia Chien on the web with no luck and as stated above, FirstStreet offers no replacement part or service on their web site. Atleast supply replacement parts. We throw away too much in our society already! I would never purchase another product constructed and marketed like this again!
I appreciate the concern voiced about the Balanced Spectrum lamp and I'm willing to do whatever I can to resolve these issues. For specific issues just send me an email and I will take care of it (daniel.yonts@firststreetonline.com) . I will look at getting replacement parts on the web, as well as speak to my CEO about the customer service issues that were raised. I will fix this and work hard to earn back the trust we have lost.
I'm in the same boat but I have 2 lamps! 1 just died and now I await the other to meet it's untimely death. These are just too expensive lights to not be able to fix!
I purchased two full-spectrum floor lamp from FirstStreet and had one of them die on me just after the warranty expired, and the second one has developed an annoying 'flicker' that will no doubt send me into an epileptic seizure one of these days.
I have since been unable to find replacement parts, so there's no hope of repairing them and returning them to usefulness.
After reading Mr. Yonts' response and assurance that he would 'look at getting replacement parts' and speak to his CEO, I felt slightly more hopeful about the situation and proceeded to contact him via his email address, above. I felt certain that he would respond with good news about finding replacement parts--or something...
The result? NOTHING. No response--not a peep.
Without a doubt, FirstStreet has the WORST customer service on the web!
I would almost have preferred that he ignore the problem and remain silent about it rather than get our hopes up! At least before, I had resigned myself to trashing these damned things...
I concur with all of the above comments because as of two months ago I have a $130.00 door stop with no availability of replacement parts. Mine was about 3 years old before it flickered, sizzled and poofed. Apparently I have fared better than most of the rest This model is no longer made, but it didn't matter because, as per the courteous and friendly customer service rep., replacement parts,other than the bulb, were never available. A while back, we bought a couple of similar lamps (Ott-Lite I believe) at Odd Lots for about $25.00 a piece. I had considered removing the ballast from one of those and installing it in the now defunct lamp. I'd probably end up with 2 pieces of junk instead of one. I was tempted to order the 34w lamp, but happened upon this site, read others' experiences and am now in a quandary. I really enjoyed the lamp before it went Tango Uniform. Everything is susceptible to wearing out, breaking or going haywire, but junking something for the need of a $5.00 part is bogus.
