Wow! IBM rocked my world.
I got my IBM Think Pad and I completely spazzed over the holiday season because it stopped working -- it said "Fan error". It's still under warranty, but I was dreading getting it fixed because years ago when I had had a problem with my IBM, I had to do this whole elaborate mailing of my laptop to get it fixed and this was also over the holidays! But I went to their website, and after spending WAY too long trying to figure out how to get to the appropriate place, I filled out the form and submitted it, frustrated after all the time I spent on the site, and with the lowest of expectations.
Well, the next business day morning, they called! And the same day SOMEONE DROVE TO MY HOUSE, installed the new part, and wow! my computer was fixed!!
I have been thinking about going Mac since I don't do much on my computer besides word-processing, but this was mighty impressive.

Sounds like some great service.
That is impressive. Everytime I buy electronics I worry about the after service if something goes wrong.
BTW, IBM sold the ThinkPad line in 2004. The company that you interacted with is actually Lenovo (www.lenovo.com). From all accounts, they bought this from IBM because they believed they could take it to the next level of product quality and service. Clearly, its working out well.
Good thing you paid for the on-site service. I sent my laptop to them and they didn't touch it for days. I probably spent about 6 hours on the phone with them, getting transferred across all of their million departments, was mislead three times, and ended up having them just send it back unrepaired since I couldn't go any longer without my laptop.
Bkm555: IBM still services Thinkpad laptops on behalf of Lenovo. Lenovo has no customer service department, they just manufacture the laptops.
