Wow! IBM rocked my world.

I got my IBM Think Pad and I completely spazzed over the holiday season because it stopped working -- it said "Fan error". It's still under warranty, but I was dreading getting it fixed because years ago when I had had a problem with my IBM, I had to do this whole elaborate mailing of my laptop to get it fixed and this was also over the holidays! But I went to their website, and after spending WAY too long trying to figure out how to get to the appropriate place, I filled out the form and submitted it, frustrated after all the time I spent on the site, and with the lowest of expectations.

Well, the next business day morning, they called! And the same day SOMEONE DROVE TO MY HOUSE, installed the new part, and wow! my computer was fixed!!

I have been thinking about going Mac since I don't do much on my computer besides word-processing, but this was mighty impressive.

HP Rules!

To keep the story brief -- my Compaq laptop had a meltdown and after calling HP and having a little bit of trouble with tech support at an Indian call center, I called again and had the whole thing sorted out.

With that, I highly recommend the new HP dv6000 notebook. It's sweet! You can check it out here:

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3044&review=HP+dv6000+HP+dv9000

WRONG COMMITMENT ON INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY ON SONY LAPTOP

I bought a SONY LAPTOP SZ460N T7200 13.3 from COMPUSA in Manhattan i.e. 551 New York via Invoice Number 285015 dated 06/26/07 costing US$ 2199.99.

I am a global traveller and when I was trying to select the best laptop for me in Manhattan, I clarified to the salesman that I should have an international warranty on it as i have had some bad experience with one more Brand while travelling. This salesman was a SONY GUY stationed in this CompUSA store and he smoothly sold me this that it is carrying the international warranty in this model etc.

Unfortunately, the hard disk crashed when I was in India and I managed to reach the Sony service station in that city in India to help me out. They said it is not carrying the international warranty and I would have to leave the laptop for a replacement of hard disk and it was costing a treasure to pay for everthing.

I called the US support number of Sony and of CompUSA and none of them were helpful at all. They kept pushing that we cannot help, the only thing they can say is SHIP the laptop at my own cost to their service center in USA from India and they would replace it and ship it back. (These calls were running in hours to understand what needs to be done and ofcourse costed me a huge amount. )

All this shipping and lead time would happen at my cost. Am i supposed to bear this stress and hassle of doing all this.... cost of calling, explaining the same case to so many people at the support side of Sony, and then realizing that it is UNFEASIBLE AND UNVIABLE TO SHIP the laptop with so much of cost and Indian customs involvement, I FEEL THAT NO ONE SHOULD BELIEVE IN WHAT THESE BIG BRANDS SAY. I am into software development business and Laptop is somethign which you need to use every other minute.

I am practically frustrated and hate SONY for it's false commitments.
