Ipoo on Ipod

I'm apparently not the only one in this situation according to all the forum posts I see... I bought a fourth generation Ipod and was overall happy about it, but it died on me exactly 1 year and 2 months after my purchase. I first visited Apple's online support but could only find limited advice, which was no hep in my case.

I knew that the warranty had just expired but I was kind of hopeful that Apple would do something for me. After all they are one of the coolest brands in the world, arent they? So I went to the Apple Store expecting that they could do something and there I learnt after waiting in line for a while that I had to cash out 249 bucks to get my player repaired... or I could "recycle" it and get 10% off a new Ipod. What a rip-off!!! Why should I give more money to a company that is obviously not putting much effort into buying quality components for their products. This is a complete joke.

Apple - you disappointed me 3 times here... when the ipod broke, when the site was useless, and when the store employee pushed me into buying a new device.

I can't wait to see a real alternative to Apple's mockery of customers. Microsoft, bring it on! Hope the Zune will rock.

I think I'm stupid

Well, finally I gave in and bought an iPod shuffle, and all my geek-selfconfidence (honed through 17 years of programming computers) went straight to hell.
Apple's software is touted to be highly user-friendly, but alas, not to me.
For the life of me I can not figure out what the rules are and what will be written to the iPod and what not.
Most of the times I end up with just a couple songs out of the dozen of albums I'm trying to upload on the iPod. Or with nothing at all :)
And it seems to me that the first thing iTunes does is delete everything on the iPod, just in case.
I read the booklet, I read the online help, I even slept with the booklet under my pillow just in case I'll figure it out, but to no avail. So I gave it away

Maybe I got the french version ? Or am I too corrupt by so many years of using evil software ?

In Praise of the iSkin

I'm very happy with the iSkin I bought for my new Nano. I don't care about whether my iPod gets scratches or dings (as this photo of my old device clearly indicates). I just wanted a belt clip to use while exercising, and this was the only Nano-compatible accessory the store had.

The iSkin is essentially a little condom for your iPod. It's a rubber sheath that you wedge your device into (heh). It comes complete with a little plastic window that covers your iPod screen.

The belt clip works very well, and the condom would certainly protect my iPod from anything short of a knife fight. However, I discovered one great side effect. One of my frustrations with my old iPod was that I was constantly turning the lock switch on and off, to stop myself from erroneously pressing buttons or the click wheel. The iSkin has the same effect, as you need to exert more pressure to operate the iPod's controls. Now the lock switch always stays in the 'unlocked' position.

The one downside of the iSkin is that my condomed iPod won't fit into its dock anymore.

Hit My Ipod

One day while using my Ipod G4, I dropped it and it froze. The "sick face" showed up on the screen with the website for support beneath it. So I went Apple's website and found out that it was a harddrive issue and that i needed to take it to a store.

When i brought my ipod to the store and showed it to the person working there, he checked my Ipod, told me that since my warantee was over there was no point in replacing my harddrive, and offered me the 10% recycle discount.

So devestatingly, i took my Ipod home and saw a few articles online of how some people fixed their Ipods. Apparently all i had to do was drop it a few times because something in the harddrive got stuck. So with nothing to lose, i did that. As i was hitting my Ipod against my palm, my Ipod turned on and the regular screen came up.

Now my Ipod is good as before. ^^... without having to replace and spend another $300 to buy a new one like the store suggested.

Ipod Shuffle--Durable!

Despite it's crankiness at the low end of the battery charge, I've got to hand it to Apple for sturdiness.

I use the Shuffle while at the gym, and I noticed the white lanyard was getting a bit grubby. I made a mental note to take it to the kitchen to remove the USB cover and hand wash the string.

As 3 decades of partying is capable of doing, I forgot to remove it from my shorts before loading into the washer. I discovered the erstwhile stowaway before tossing it into the spinning hell of the dryer.

Having a bit too much experience with the frustrating combination of electronics and water, I removed the now sparkling clean lanyard/cap combination and shook out the dewy freshness from within.

After only a day, I fired that sucker up, and it's played as well as it ever did--for the past 14 months!
